Sensei Brandis, Master Madry, Sensei Manalo, and all the rest of the staff have been wonderful to my family and helping my son grow. My ten year old son has learned so much from them from learning great benifical skills to bettering his behavior problems. We have been with them a year, and plan on many more to come. Cleveland Karate Institute truly cares about their students!

We adopted our son Stefan when he was three years old. He struggles with ADHD and PTSD. He also has issues related to his early years in an unsafe environment that was lacking in nurturing and support. Our case manager suggested that we enroll Stephan in karate classes. Her son was a member of the Cleveland Karate Institute. She thought that the staff members and Sensei's willingness to meet the individual needs of our son would be appealing to us. She was right. We enrolled Stefan when he was 5 years old. From the beginning, Sensei Eugene Madry and Sensei Tim Brandes had been able to work with Stefan to help bring out his inner strengths. With many years of training between these two Senseis, their dedication was more than obvious. Stefan has taken an exceptional interest in Karate and is now working towards his blue belt. While this is an impressive accomplishment for any young child, it has been extremely rewarding to watch him grow as an individual. Stefan is now 10 years old.
Besides teaching our son the art of Karate, the Senseis and staff at the Cleveland Karate Institute have been a positive influence in many other ways. They have worked to teach him how to relate to his peers, how to identify positive influences and how to be a positive influence for others. They have given him self confidence, self respect, trust and security. He respects tne Senseis and is excited to tell them about his latest accomplishments outside of the Dojo (such as his report card). When he has personal problems, we have included them as part of our circle of support. Recently, Stefan faced a very difficult situation. As he was working through it, he revealed some reluctance to share his mistakes with Sensei. When asked why, he said it was because he cared so much about what they thought of him. As he put it "they are always so nice to me there. Except for my family, not many people in my life have been nice to me."
The Cleveland Karate Institute is not only teaching Stefan Karate, they are helping to build a foundation of skills that he will use throughout his life. He is always treated with respect and dignity. The support Stefan has received from this Institute has remained a constant for the last 5 years. The genuine dedication of the staff members and the Senseis in this Dojo is commendable.
